Goodbye to a friend way too soon

Forgive me for the structure errors but I had to get this out. In the tradition of Rudyard Kipling:

My Farewell

I didn’t really want you
Yet you didn’t care
I proclaimed you were hers
Yet you made yours too

You looked at me with your eyes
And pretended you were dumb
But you knew what you were doing
And manipulated me with your guile

When I was ill you comforted me
When you ailed I comforted you
When I angered you ran to her
And when I repented you smirked at me

Love has no bounds
That much is true
Your love had no pretensions
Concurrently, you made my love for you found

Love is not a given in our lives
It is not even a right
Love is a gift from god
And given ever so slight

You brought us closer
You made us complete
You taught us patience
And the way to find closure

In tomes stored in silent halls it’s written in zeal
To know a dog is to know tears
Yet, my heart tears with your passing
God speed old friend to your Elysian fields.
